Update: March, 2008
Dear Friends of the Sweetwater -
We know that you are all anxiously waiting to hear how the
new site for Sweetwater is coming along so here is an
update.
As you know we passed unanimously through City Hall with no
opposition but only a packed room of Sweetwater supporters.
Since then we have been working very hard on the final
layout of the bar, bathrooms, seating, storage, heating and
air conditioning, acoustics and sound system. We have got
to say that we have an excellent, top notch team of
professionals working very hard to make this the best
nightclub around. And it WILL be.
The sound system is going to be the best in the Bay Area
and especially for our size room. Bo Putnum has been
working very hard on this along with his team of experts
and Bob Weir and his sound guy.
We are very thrilled to have this kind of expertise putting
this all together.
The final plans for plumbing and electrical are being
submitted to the City in the next two weeks and in the mean
time the contractors have been working very hard on the
retro fit of the building as well as the belly of the
building installing a state of the art moisture control
system of alarms and pumps in the case of a flood. The
handicapped work is also being worked on at this time. Once
the final plans pass the check system with the city we will
do the final phase of construction, bringing in the bar,
refrigeration, barn wood walls, sound system, acoustic
work, seating, etc. We anticipate this work to be finished
sometime in June and then will open with some huge shows
and fundraisers. All of this takes a lot of time and money
and we could not do it with out the generous support of all
you. We are still accepting any donations to the cause
which can be done via paypal or our PO Box, all which is
listed below.
Finally as you all know we also have our other venue that
we took over before Sweetwater closed its doors on
Throckmorton, the Larkspur Café Theater. This is a great
venue and a wonderful listening room. Musicians really love
this venue because of it’s vibe and the acoustics. We are
building a great new clientele in Larkspur and at the same
time promoting the new site for Sweetwater. Every night I
come home saying “I have never seen any of these people
before” so we are reaching out to a whole new section of
the Bay Area. People are constantly asking about when we
are reopening Sweetwater and the cross promotion is really
going to help us become “the” venue to be when we reopen.
The excitement is tremendous among the citizens of the
county and beyond.
As many of you know we recently changed the name of
Larkspur to “Sweetwater Station”, a move which, after some
market research, we concluded would benefit both that and
the Mill Valley venue.
Thank you again for supporting Sweetwater and keeping music
alive in Marin.
Sincerely,
Thom and Becky
